Leonard,
I reinstalled Vista, for I found that programs that I relied on released Vista versions. I revisited the issue with the Bix recorder and it still crashes when the recorder starts up (activex recorder) running in IE7. I tried the scenario that you suggested, of "create practice entry" with the "other" video and the recorder still didn't load - just crashed the browser immediately upon loading up.
I was able to load up the alternate recorder (flash recorder), but didn't try recording anything just yet. I was able to load this recorder in both Firefox and IE7 - in IE7, I just had to update the URL to utilize the flash recorder. You've noted that people in the office there are able to record in Vista. Is it possible that people there may be utilizing the flash recorder atop Vista (in IE) rather than the Activex recorder?
The ActiveX add-on is the CRecorder Object (bix17.dll). Let me know if there is any way I can help out.
Thanks again for looking into the ActiveX recorder in IE7 / Vista. Looking forward to your response.
-Peter

I'm having this same problem. When I first installed Vista, the ActiveX recorder ran fine with Vista's default audio drivers, but those drivers would not let me use the microphone or adjust any settings other than volume. I updated to the chipset's manufacturer's Vista drivers (Realtek High Definition Audio (http://www.realtek.com/tw)), and that's when IE7 started crashing because of the CRecorder Object (bix17.dll). The alternate recorder runs without crashing IE7, but I cannot get it to record in synch or with proper sound levels (music too loud, voice too soft or vice-versa), and I really want to enter some of the new contests.
